Central Macedonia's organic food producers took their products to one of the world's largest organic trade fairs, as the regional authority participated in Biofach in Nuremberg, Germany, for the third time.
The participation forms part of the administration's strategy to support local agri-food businesses and strengthen their international presence. Biofach, the world's largest trade fair for organic food, is a key global meeting point for the sector, bringing together more than 35,000 professional visitors and over 2,500 exhibitors from dozens of countries this year.
At the exhibition, Central Macedonia was represented by nine local companies, which presented a range of organic products reflecting the area's agricultural diversity. The showcase included olives, rice, herbs, tea, stuffed vegetables, sauces and superfoods such as spirulina from Serres. The local authority hosted the companies on a dedicated exhibition stand designed to facilitate meetings with potential buyers and existing partners, while also enabling participants to attend seminars and industry discussions on emerging trends and innovations in organic food production.
Regional officials stressed the importance of such international platforms for boosting export prospects. Branislav "Bane" Prelevic, deputy regional governor for extroversion, said: “With our participation for the third time in Biofach, we support businesses producing organic products and uphold our commitment to products that respect consumers and sustainability. The extroversion of organic products is a vital pillar for the region's economic development and a key tool for supporting the agricultural sector."
Deputy regional governor for agricultural economy Giorgos Kefalas noted that demand for organic products remains steady globally, adding that younger consumers are increasingly attentive to production methods and environmental impact. "With the investments being made in the field of organic foods, we are creating products with added value, increasing their competitiveness and recognition in the demanding international market," he said.
