A new direct flight between Thessaloniki and Amman will operate from 20 March through the end of the year, it has been announced. Royal Jordanian Airlines, Jordan's national carrier, will operate the route in collaboration with local travel agencies Genius Travel and Silver Star Holidays.
According to the official announcement, "The new route creates a strong development and tourism axis between Northern Greece and the Middle East," strengthening Thessaloniki's international connectivity and opening up new opportunities in leisure tourism and business mobility.
Thessaloniki, Greece's second-largest city and northern Greece's commercial hub, is described as "strategically important" not only locally but also for Southeast Europe as a whole. The direct service is expected to enhance the city's status as an international transport hub, providing quick access to Royal Jordanian's extensive network across the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. It is also expected to attract travellers and professionals from neighbouring countries such as Bulgaria, North Macedonia, and Albania, making Thessaloniki a gateway between Southeast Europe and the Middle East.
Jordan is promoted as "one of the most authentic and multidimensional destinations" in the region, combining globally recognised landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and a high standard of hospitality and safety. Through this strategic partnership, the companies aim to develop a comprehensive portfolio of travel products, including organised leisure trips, thematic cultural and historical experiences, religious and pilgrimage programmes, and specialised itineraries highlighting Jordan's diverse natural scenery, from desert landscapes to wellness retreats.
Genius Travel has already designed tailored programmes that showcase Jordan's cultural identity and its contemporary dynamism. A company representative said: "The new direct Thessaloniki - Amman connection is a development of strategic importance for our region. Through our cooperation with Royal Jordanian Airlines and Silver Star Holidays, we strengthen Thessaloniki's international presence and create new opportunities for tourism and business mobility in Northern Greece."
