At the 6th High-Level Cooperation Council between Greece and Turkey, held in Ankara, the governments of the two countries signed seven joint texts aimed at deepening bilateral ties across a range of sectors, including culture, research and technology, earthquake preparedness, investment promotion, and regional cooperation.
Among the agreements was a joint declaration launching a new ferry connection between the ports of Thessaloniki and İzmir. The planned maritime link is intended to strengthen economic, commercial, and tourism exchanges between northern Greece and western Turkey, connecting two historic port cities with long-standing cultural ties across the Aegean.
The meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan lasted around 90 minutes at the Presidential Palace in Ankara, followed by the formal session of the Cooperation Council, attended by a large ministerial delegation.
In their joint statements, Erdoğan described Mitsotakis as a "valuable friend" and stressed that the existing disputes between the two countries are not insoluble when addressed in accordance with international law. Mitsotakis, for his part, said "it is time for every threat in our relations to be lifted", signalling a more stable and forward-looking bilateral agenda.
