A secondary school pupil from northern Greece has been selected to represent her country at one of Europe's leading youth democratic forums.
Anastasia Velaora, a second-year student at the 1st General Lyceum of Evosmos in the municipality of Kordelio-Evosmos, on the outskirts of Thessaloniki, is among five students chosen nationwide to take part in the upcoming International Session of the European Youth Parliament. The event will be held in Pordenone, Italy, from 21 to 29 March 2026 and will bring together young delegates from across the continent to debate pressing political, social and environmental issues.

Velaora stood out among 119 participants at the 50th National Selection Conference of the European Youth Parliament Greece, where the five Greek representatives were selected. Notably, she is the only student from a state school in this year's delegation, with the remaining four attending private institutions.
In a statement, the municipality described participation in European programmes of this kind as "a supreme honour and responsibility" for students and their schools. The mayor of Kordelio-Evosmos, Elefterios Alexandridis, welcomed Velaora to his office to personally congratulate her, calling her achievement "a great honour and joy" for the local community and expressing confidence that she would represent Greece with distinction.
